Presentations Description
Institution: Tamworth Hospital - NSW, Australia
Aim: To determine the prevalence of minicobblestoning in patients with Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (ETD) or its sequelae.
Methodology: Minicobblestoning is an identifiable pattern of nasopharyngeal mucosa due to submucosal serous gland hypertrophy and commonly associated with inhalant allergy. 50 patient medical records with photodocumentation or description of the nasopharyngeal findings were retrospectively reviewed.
Results: 43/50 (86%) of patients who had ETD also had minicobblestoning of their nasopharyngeal mucosa.
Conclusion: Minicobblestoning is a strong predictor of Eustachian Tube Dysfunction and warrants further investigation into the pathophysiology of the finding.
